CHEESE FESTI-VAL DI SOLE
From August 31st, till September 23rd, Val di Sole will be the home of the good kitchen, of flavours and traditions. It will be an exploration between past and present, between tradition and innovation, all surrounded by a huge flavours' party. We are talking about Cheese Festi-Val di Sole, not only a food and wine event. A lot of culinary events will take place, together with educational and funny activities, such as guided tours to alpine cottages, farming markets and agriculture festivals.
This festival is not only about flavours, it's about men and women who spend their lives together with their animals in the mountains. There will be stories about alpine pastures, which is a tradition that is still really strong and present in our valley. This tradition is still very fascinating because of its simplicity and its rhytms. The aim of this Festival is to highlight those stories of everyday's extraordinariness.
The last part of the festival will take place on September 22nd and 23rd, with the LATTE IN FESTA. During this event, that will be in Val di Rabbi (just few Km away from Monroc), there will be tastings of local products, together with shows and workshops.
The main character will be the inevitable Casolet, our traditional cheese. This cheese is an emblem of genuineness and simplicity: it was born long time ago, before WWII. At the beginning it was a cheese that was prepared only to be eaten at home, as it was made with the little milk that they had in autumn. The name comes from Latin caseolus, that literally means "small cheese". Still today the Casolet is a very small cheese.
On Sunday, September 23rd, the festival will definitely end with the traditional "Desmalghjada", the event that states the end of summer for the alpine pastures, with the cattle coming back to the valley. It's a festival full of colours and music, and the cows are dressed up with flower crowns and bells. The word "desmalgada" literally refers to the animals that come down from the apline pastures back to the valley. It's the end of the summer and the beginning of autumn. It's an event that cannot be missed!
Here you will find the details, to take note of all the appoinment of this unmissable event:
